You’d be hard pressed to find an individual as passionate and knowledgeable about Tribology as Valvoline’s Dr. George Zhang.
For their work, this is where the rubber meets the road (or maybe where oil meets the engine?)
Tune into our episode with Valvoline to understand how this multi-billion dollar company is positioning itself for the future 🎧
“You’re telling me up to HALF of the energy that powers a data center is being used just to cool the computers?!” ⚡️
Valvoline is playing role in fixing that. Which is super important as more data centers come online to support America’s AI ambitions.
If you’re like us, you might’ve only thought of Valvoline as the place you take your car when you’re a thousand miles overdue for an oil change.
These days, they’re doing a lot more than just ensuring your car continues to run smoothly. They’re also ensuring that data centers operate more efficiently by innovating on the approach to keeping computers cool.
Super cool experience getting to see how a multi-billion dollar company drives innovation that has a global impact, right here in our back yard.
Our full episode with Valvoline drops tomorrow. It’s a bit different from our typical focus on startups, but equally important to shed some light on the innovation happening at the large corporate companies that call KY home as well.

A smooth pitch takes rehearsal, especially if you’re co-presenting—either designate a single speaker or be meticulously prepared with your roles.
Keep your pitch concise and know your audience.
Tailor the content depending on who’s in the room; for example, engineers will want technical insights, while finance professionals are more interested in the business model.

In a twist no one saw coming (except the infrared drone), the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office used their new tech toy to find Henry Harris, a suspect lying in a ditch 100 yards from his mother’s house. Karma came in the form of Zeus, the latest addition to the sheriff’s office—a drone with infrared capabilities perfect for hunting down suspects at night. GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 has just passed the Turing Test with flying colors. This test, which measures whether an AI can mimic human conversation well enough to fool a human, has been a THE benchmark for AI progress since the ‘50s.
Alan Turing, or anyone else from that era, would likely be fascinated by this breakthrough, seeing it as a moon-landing-esque achievement in technology. However, he’d also be horrified, realizing we’ve created machines capable of flawless human imitation and potential deception.

Well, folks, it looks like McDonald’s AI drive-thru test with IBM has hit a red light. After a year of trying to get computers to take your Big Mac orders without a hitch, the fast-food giant has decided to pull the plug. This supposed tech marvel was meant to revolutionize your fast-food pit stop but ended up being more of a bump in the road. So, while your friendly human drive-thru attendant gets a breather, don’t celebrate too hard—this victory is as fleeting.
Sure, human workers, enjoy this momentary win against the rise of the robots. IBM’s AI might have tripped over its own digital feet, but don’t let that fool you. This hiccup is just a minor speed bump on AI’s relentless highway; the tech titans will be back, better and probably with fewer glitches.
The march towards automation is inevitable, and this setback is nothing more than a cautionary tale. So, while McDonald’s re-evaluates its AI ambitions, remember: the future is still very much automated, even if it has to pause for a McMuffin.

Donald Trump claims electric vehicles (EVs) are a “radical plan” threatening American freedom. But Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear isn’t buying it. Beshear argues that political posturing doesn’t stack up against the concrete benefits of job creation.
And Beshear has good reason to brag. The EV sector has injected nearly $12 billion into Kentucky, promising over 10,200 full-time jobs. With the state’s largest-ever economic development project underway, Beshear’s and the Bluegrass are betting big on EVs, confident they’ll drive past any political potholes and keep Kentucky’s economy buzzing.
What do you think: Are EVs the future or just another political battleground?

When asked for advice on pitching, Dr. Elijah Jensen had a few great pieces of advice: practice, pitch solo, and know your audience.
A successful pitch balances what matters most to each listener, showing that you know how to connect with any crowd.

Let’s talk about parking.
It’s the Achilles heel of many developments.
In the suburbs, parking is often free, but it drags down returns and drives up costs for urban developments. Structured parking can cost up to $25,000 per space, and subterranean garages double that.
Remember—it’s expensive to park because it’s expensive to build.

Wondering why there’s been a surge in drive-thrus? 🚗
Companies like Seven Brew, Scooters, Dutch Bros, and Dunkin’ realized during the pandemic that shifting to drive-thru operations can be just as, if not more, profitable.
By leasing smaller spaces, requiring fewer employees, and reducing rent costs, businesses found they could maintain or even increase sales while adapting to changing consumer preferences.
Whether it’s coffee shops, restaurants, or urgent cares, the drive-thru model offers convenience and efficiency for both businesses and customers.
